Keeping Up With Kylie

Move over Kim, Kylie is the new family favorite.

Whether you appreciate them or not, everyone knows the Kardashian/Jenner clan is an icon for fashion, makeup, extravagant lifestyles, and, of course, drama. You can probably catch all of that and more within the first 5 minutes of their hit reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. While Kim typically gets all of the public's attention, Kylie Jenner is now taking over the social media spotlight.

Earlier this year Kylie launched her own company, Kylie Cosmetics, that is blowing up the cosmetic industry. Kylie can always be seen wearing bold lipstick on her voluptuous lips, so why not make a business out what she does best? The buzz about Kylie's launch is all over Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TV and has yet to calm down. Kylie offers a variety of products including Metals, Glosses, Matte singles, and Matte lip kits with colors ranging from black, nude, to even a sky blue. Perfect for everyone, right?

Her unbelievable success was not just luck or a coincidence. Yes Kylie is undoubtably famous, but she used her major Instagram presence, with over 71 million followers by the way, to show off the cosmetics to her fanbase. With daily pictures and snaps, Kylie gives her fans a preview of new shades, products, and even her infamous lips that her followers are going crazy for.

Don't think Kylie is successful? Simply read the comments under her Instagram cosmetic pictures, look through her site to see how many products are sold out, or try to purchase lipstick on a new release day because, let me tell ya, the site will crash. Despite what your opinion is on Kylie, the Kardashians, or the product itself, Kylie has dominated social media marketing. Kylie knew her audience, knew how to reach her audience, and most importantly, knew what her audience wanted to buy. Kudos to you Kylie.

  1. I definitely see young as a strong business woman. She utilizes Snapchat perfectly. Every new product she has she shows her followers and she shows them how excited she is personally about the product. She knows her target market and she is proud of her products. Great post!

  2. This is such an interesting post. Kylie is definitely making a name for herself and setting herself apart from the rest of her family. No one can claim that she is just famous because of her family, because she is a business mastermind. People cannot stop talking about about her. The way she stays connected wit her fans through snapchat and instagram makes her fans feel connected to her in a way unlike almost any other celebrity. She is such an interesting person to follow on social media because she is so different from the average person, but she still comes off as so relatable. This one attribute can go a long way in business.

  3. It's incredibly interesting to me how successful someone so young can be because of word spread over social media--one other thing I've found to be very effective for Kylie's brand and its connection to social media is the use of her products in makeup tutorials posted on Youtube and then frequently shared on other social media outlets such as Facebook and Instagram. It's crazy how many people will buy the products once they are endorsed by well-known makeup artists that they see online.

  4. I think this is a really interesting topic to pick, because Kylie is almost a pioneer in the use of social media as a main outlet to market her products. In addition, she markets them in a more personal manner, as seen by the lipstick on her hand, rather than having a professional ad to post on her personal Instagram account. Large companies still typically look for more formal outlets as their main marketing channel, such as TV commercials or magazine advertisements. Kylie is a young business woman who is in touch with her audience and chooses to use her personal social media to market her products, since her image is a huge aspect of her products as well.

  5. It is mind blowing how Kylie is dominating social media at the moment. Even I have fallen into the trap! I am not a huge fan of the family's show yet I am an avid Kylie follower, on Instagram and snapchat. Both are like a living commercial for her cosmetic collection. At first I followed to see what all the fuss was about, then I found myself waiting for her post on restocks, and before I knew it I had purchased FOUR of her lip kits. She got me. She doesn't make use of formal press releases, instead announcing a new product on her snapchat, then that product is sold out in minutes. It is truly astonishing how she has taken the beauty industry by storm by simply making use of social media. Kylie wins.
