National Free Food Day

Do you love free food? Do you download restaurant apps for their coupons and discounts?

Most millennials have fancy iPhones with tons of storage, but all of that storage is filled with pictures and videos. As for me, my storage is gone because of the amount of restaurant apps I have on my phone. I am all about those weekly deals and free food offers from all of my favorite places--which is an excellent marketing technique for people like me.

This past Thursday was National Free Food Day with the Hooked app. The Hooked app is one of my favorite apps that has deals for multiple local restaurants such as Smoothie King, Zoe's Kitchen, Subway, and much more. On Thursday, the Hooked app wanted to show its appreciation for its users across college campuses by giving a unique deal to Michigan State,Tennessee, Mizzou, North Carolina, and much more!

For Athens, Hooked gave us a special deal for 5 free boneless wings at Wing Zone (which is amazing). Other deals across the country were a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich, free six inch sub, free smoothie, and a free scoop at ColdStone.

This was a perfect marketing strategy for Hooked as well as many restaurants. This app is widely used by college kids who are on a budget or are too lazy to cook so it only makes to give their fanbase free food to say thanks for making their app so successful. In addition, many popular and local business who don't normally go onto the Hooked app can experience a surge of sale and popularity after National Free Food Day.

Do yourself a favor and download the Hooked app for incredible deals at your favorite, local restaurants. Not only are you helping Hooked and restaurants gain popularity, you are helping yourself by getting amazing food!

  2. Wow I have heard of the hooked app, but I have never used it. I had no idea that there were such great offers on there! Definitely going to download it now. Thanks for sharing! College students everywhere love free food so I am sure this promotion was widely successful.

  4. What exactly does the Hook app have? Discounts all the time? Do you have to be a 'member'? Sounds very interesting and who doesn't love free food!! Great post!

  5. I used to work for the Red & Black's advertising department and when Hooked was released, they thought nothing of it. Currently, they are having some trouble competing with the ease of advertising with the app. I occasionally use Hooked, but often forget it exists. More push notifications may be able to change my habits, but they don't want to annoy customers.

  6. I've seen advertisements in different restaurants around town but I was never really sure what it was- until now. Wow! I wish I would have known about this sooner! Especially for National Free Food Day. It's cool how it's only available for students in select towns. We could definitely use the discounts. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Wow, can't believe I missed out on this! I downloaded the Hooked app last year and actually talked about it in a presentation for a class. I deleted it because I wasn't using it and always forgot it was there. I still have the Pocket Points app (where you earn points for not being on your phone during class) but rarely use it because I also forget its there. It will be interesting to see how food apps like these get their name out there in the future because the trend seems to be going downward for them.

  8. Hooked is such a great app, I love that it allows both chain and local restaurants to offer discounts to their customers! You're totally right National Food Day is a great way for both Hooked and lots of restaurants to get consumers "hooked" on not only the apps discounts but also the different restaurants.

  9. This seems like such a win win for everyone involved. Since Hooked is mainly in college towns, this is great for all the broke college students and for all the restaurants trying to gain notoriety.

  11. I used this app for a few days a year or so ago and then stopped as the platform was a little confusing for me. However I've seen a lot more promotion and good reviews for it recently so I may give it another try!
